Beginning in 1984, a total of six cannons have been recovered from the Detroit River, the latest in 2011.  Join maritime archaeologist Dan Harrison as he traces their history through the turbulent 18th century, as French, Native Americans, British and Americans wrestled for control of the strategic Straits of Detroit.  The guns, though now silent, bear witness to the escalating militarization of the Great Lakes that climaxed in the War of 1812.

Dr. Harrison will bring his book “Michigan’s Venice: The Transformation of the St. Clair Flats, 1640 – 2000” for signing and sale after the presentation ($40 cash or check).
