JUST ADDED: LIVE MUSIC FROM BLUE SPECTRUM!

Teens from all four branches are invited for a fun and exciting night as we celebrate Summer Reading with the them of “Libraries Rock“!

Challenge your friends in the inflatable jousting arena, play video games, decorate cupcakes, enjoy pizza, snacks, music, crafts, and more. Join us and make it a blast!

No registration required. Open to those entering grades 7 through 12 with school I.D., Michigan state I.D., or driver’s license only.
Teens must arrive by 7:00 p.m.  This is a parent-free event. This program will be held in the Atrium in front of the Civic Center Library.

Right before your very eyes, the Ring of Steel Action Theatre and Stunt Troupe presents a demonstration of Jedi Masters from a galaxy far, far away.   Be enthralled as this professional troupe demonstrates light sabers as shown in the epic films.  All ages are welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.  Registration is requested, register here or call 586.574.4564.

Our Summer Reading Programs for all ages begin Saturday, June 16 and every branch is kicking off summer reading with some great programs!

Civic Center Library – 1:00pm – 4:00pm – Summer Reading Kickoff and Imagination Theater

Come in and celebrate the opening day of Summer Reading Club. This year’s theme is Libraries Rock! Help us decorate the children’s room and make a craft! At 2:00 pm, get ready to be entertained! Children of all ages are invited to join Janet Marie & m’Archibald from the Imagination Theatre for a fun and silly sing-along hour to kick-off summer reading.The kick-off is for ages 0 to those entering grade 6 and will be in the library. No registration is required for this program.

Arthur Miller Branch Library – 11:00am – 12:00pm – Outdoor Extravaganza

Water is life.  Join us for a presentation by Mary Ellen Howard, RSM, who ran the Cabrini Clinic in Detroit, the oldest free health clinic in the nation, for 20 years.  She has now chosen to focus her energies and talents on water issues that face us in this Great Lakes region which holds 20% of the earth’s surface fresh water. She will address a number of challenges, including health issues, stemming from the water crisis.

On January 16, 2018, at 8:08 pm,  a meteor exploded over metro Detroit.  Ever since, people have hunted for a piece of the debris.  Sandy Macika, a former NASA volunteer, will answer the following questions: What is a meteorite? How do you recognize a Meteorite? What are some of the different types of meteorites and tektites?

Attendees will have the opportunity to examine and touch examples of meteorites and tektites from outer space.
