Through custom-trained assistance dogs, Paws With a Cause enhances the independence and quality of life for people with disabilities. Join us as they describe how their program works, how they got started, and the many types of people they help. We will also get to meet and greet some of the puppies as well as fully trained service dogs!

Our Summer Reading Programs for all ages begin Saturday, June 15 and every branch is kicking off Summer Reading with some out-of-this-world programs!

Maybelle Burnette Branch Library – 9:00am – 4:30pm – Summer Reading Opening Day

Come join us for a fun filled day of drop-in games, crafts and prizes! For more information, contact the Burnette Branch at 586-758-2115.

Arthur Miller Branch Library – 11:00am – 12:30pm – Discovery Under the Dome

Kick off Summer Reading with an out of this world experience in a full-immersion planetarium dome from Dinosaur Hill Nature Center. The show, “Earth’s Wild Ride” will fly you above the night sky and let you check out the earth from above! Movie run time is 50 minutes and children must be in grades K-5 and able to sit without an adult. Younger siblings can enjoy a story and craft in the gym as well. Registration required. Dorothy Busch Branch Library – 1:00pm – 2:30 pm – Ming the Magnigficent

 Magician Ming Louie will be here to amaze and entertain us with his unique style of magic as we celebrate A Universe of Stories! After the show, make a craft and practice spinning the prize wheel!  Register online or by phone at 586-7353-0580.

Civic Center Library – 2:00pm – 3:00pm – Discovery Under the Dome

Discover your world in a digital, full immersion planetarium dome for an out-of-this-world experience! Children will enjoy Earth’s Wild Ride, and will fly through a lunar colony, soar over an erupting volcano, and ride a river through a canyon. An additional 30 minute program will take children on a tour of the night sky above the library. Movie run time is 50 minutes. Children must be able to enjoy the movie in the dome without their parents. Younger siblings are welcome to attend our Star Wars Storytime during the show.

Civic Center Library – 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm – Star Wars Storytimes

Children of all ages can attend a Star Wars Storytime. There will be stories and crafts about some of our favorite characters from the Star Wars movies. Costumes welcome! Registration required. Physics professor and astronomer Jesse Mason returns with a presentation for the 50th anniversary of the first manned lunar landing, “a giant leap for mankind”.  On July 20, 1969, the lunar module of Apollo 11 landed safely on the moon.  Join us to learn about the historic event.  All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Week of April 29, Arthur Miller Library

Make sure to come to the library and check out plenty of children’s books to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Children’s Book Week. There will be drop in crafts in the Children’s area. You can also enter a raffle to win a basket children’s books!

Children’s Book Week is an annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest running national literacy initiative in the country.
